Galloway cottage
Burnside Cottage is located in an area of Dumfries and Galloway known locally as The Machars – a peninsula that juts out into the Solway Firth – at the southern-most tip of Scotland. It is a hidden gem at the heart of Old Galloway.
The Machars, which comes from the Gaelic, 'Machair', meaning 'coastal plain' is known for its 200-mile coastline, fishing ports and rolling fields. Burnside is located a mile from the harbour village of Port William, where lobsters can be bought straight off the boat and a cosy restaurant serves hearty tuck and bottled beers at honest prices. The picturesque fishing village of the Isle of Whithorn lies a few miles south, and Newton Stewart, at the gateway to the Galloway Hills, 15 miles north.
Rocky coves, sandy beaches and coastal walks abound and the cottage is an ideal base for the Galloway Hills; Galloway Forest Park; the 7 Stanes mountain biking centre at Kirroughtree; the activity centres at Laggan Outdoor and Lock Ken; the gardens at Castle Kennedy, Glenwhan and Port Logan, as well as Cream O’Galloway and other attractions
Galloway cottage for five; enclosed gardens & log fire
Burnside Cottage comfortably sleeps five people in three bedrooms. At one end of the cottage the master bedroom has a double bed, while at the other there are twin and single bedrooms. There is a cot and and camping bed, if required.
Outside, the half-acre site is fully enclosed and busy with wildlife. At the back we use the patio and small lawn to dine out and enjoy a glass of wine and a barbecue, while listening to the yellowhammers call out their song in the early evening. We provide free wood for the log burner and WiFi.
