galloway COTTAGE with log fire
Burnside has an open plan kitchen/diner/living room creating a warm communal feel, enhanced by the log fire in our wood-burning stove, which can pump out the heat on cool evenings. There is an unlimited supply of wood for you to use.
The holiday cottage has everything you’ll need for a comfortable stay: dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, electric cooker, giant lobster pan, cot, high chair, freeview TV, DVD player with films and box sets, binoculars, guide books, maps and lots and lots of information about the local area.
The main room opens out onto an enclosed garden and patio at the back. This part of the house faces south west and the sun streams over it in the evening. We are steadily stocking our rockery with weed resistant plants(!), which bring a splurge of colour in the summer and autumn. In the morning, the sunlight flows down the across the fields at the front, illuminating the front garden and flooding the house.
5 bed HOLIDAY cottage in galloway WITH enclosed gardens
Burnside Cottage comfortably sleeps five people in three bedrooms.
At one end of the cottage the master bedroom has a double bed, while at the other there are twin and single bedrooms. There is a cot and and camping bed, if required. All the bedrooms have built in wardrobes.
Outside, the half-acre site is fully enclosed, perfect for those with young children and great for a game of hide and seek. At the back we use the patio and small lawn to dine out and enjoy a glass of wine and a barbecue, while listening to the yellowhammers call out their song in the early evening.
Wildlife is all around Burnside Cottage
We love our cottage for many reasons and one of them is the wildlife. When Burnside was home to farm workers, the front garden was a small holding, now it is left to the wildlife, including hare, deer, stoats and birds.
Small voles often pick their way carefully along the rockery at the back when they think you're not looking and occasionally an otter has been spotted in the stream.
We hang bird feeders on the trees around the cottage to encourage visitors. And between us and guests 20 varieties of birds have been seen around the cottage.
